Iberia Returns to Canada After 30 Years with New Madrid–Toronto A321XLR Service
Iberia returned to Canada for the first time in over 30 years on June 13, launching five-weekly A321XLR service between Madrid Barajas and Toronto Pearson — one of the longest narrowbody transatlantic routes now operating at nine hours block time.
Iberia launched nonstop service between Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on June 13, 2026, with flight IB0367 departing Madrid at 12:00 PM and arriving in Toronto at 3:00 PM local time. The carrier reported a load factor exceeding 95% on the inaugural flight, per its official news release.
The route operates five days per week — Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — using the Airbus A321XLR, the long-range narrowbody for which Iberia was the global launch customer in November 2024. At approximately 3,270 nautical miles (6,060 km), the nine-hour outbound block time makes it one of the longest A321XLR routes currently operated by any airline.
The launch marks Iberia's return to Canada after more than 30 years, adding Toronto as the carrier's 49th destination overall and its sixth North American city alongside New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, and Washington Dulles. Iberia estimates about 70,000 passengers travel annually between Toronto and Madrid, a market it expects to grow now that nonstop service is available.
The route is part of Iberia's Flight Plan 2030 strategy, which includes a €6 billion investment to expand its long-haul fleet from 51 to 70 aircraft. The airline will offer more than 37,000 seats on the Toronto route through the 2026 summer season.
The launch was confirmed by Iberia's official press release, Simple Flying, AirlineGeeks, and Travelweek Canada.
