Iberia, Líneas Aéreas de España, S.A. Operadora, Sociedad Unipersonal, commonly known as Iberia, is the flag carrier of Spain. The airline was incorporated on June 28, 1927, and commenced flight operations on December 14, 1927. Initially, Iberia focused on connecting major cities within Spain. Following World War II, the airline expanded its international network, particularly to Latin America, becoming one of the first European carriers to establish regular flights to South America. After being nationalized in 1944, Iberia was privatized in 2001 and subsequently merged with British Airways in 2011 to form the International Airlines Group (IAG), one of Europe's leading aviation powerhouses.
