About Iberia
Here is comprehensive information about Iberia (ICAO: IBE) airline:
Iberia, Líneas Aéreas de España, S.A. Operadora, Sociedad Unipersonal, commonly known as Iberia, is the flag carrier of Spain. The airline was incorporated on June 28, 1927, and commenced flight operations on December 14, 1927. Initially, Iberia focused on connecting major cities within Spain. Following World War II, the airline expanded its international network, particularly to Latin America, becoming one of the first European carriers to establish regular flights to South America. After being nationalized in 1944, Iberia was privatized in 2001 and subsequently merged with British Airways in 2011 to form the International Airlines Group (IAG), one of Europe's leading aviation powerhouses.
Iberia's primary operational base and main hub is Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) in Madrid, Spain. The airline also maintains secondary hubs at Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) in Barcelona, Spain, and José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) in Medellín, Colombia, which further enhance its global connectivity. As of October 2025, Iberia operates an all-Airbus fleet, comprising narrow-body aircraft such as the Airbus A319, A320, A320neo, A321, and the long-range A321XLR, alongside wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A330-200, A330-300, and A350-900. The airline's extensive route network spans over 130 destinations across 49 countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, with a significant emphasis on transatlantic routes between Europe and Latin America.
Iberia is a proud member of the Oneworld alliance, having joined on September 1, 1999. This alliance membership allows it to offer passengers a broader route network and frequent flyer benefits across partner airlines. For its services, Iberia offers distinct cabin classes including Economy Class, Premium Economy, and Business Class. On long-haul flights, passengers can experience Business Class Plus with fully lie-flat seats and direct aisle access, along with a dedicated Premium Economy cabin providing wider seats, increased recline, and enhanced service. All long-haul flights (over 4.5 hours) include complimentary meals in all cabin classes.
