Air Serbia launched twice-weekly nonstop service between Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on May 23, 2026, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays with an Airbus A330-200. The inaugural arrival in Toronto was greeted with a water cannon salute, per EX-YU Aviation News.
The launch restores direct Serbia–Canada connectivity for the first time in more than 30 years. The previous nonstop service was operated by JAT Yugoslav Airlines before the early 1990s. Air Serbia's official website confirms the May 23 start date and the Wednesday/Saturday schedule.
Aviation Week reported that CEO Jiří Marek described the Toronto launch as "a significant symbolic and strategic step forward" for the carrier, noting that Toronto becomes Air Serbia's third North American destination after New York and Chicago. The Greater Toronto Area is home to one of the largest Serbian diaspora communities outside of Europe, generating strong VFR (visiting friends and relatives) demand.
The Belgrade–Toronto launch is part of Air Serbia's broader 2026 network expansion, which also adds six first-time destinations: Baku, Santorini, Seville, Tenerife, Tromsø, and a resumed daily Belgrade–Munich service after an 18-year hiatus, per SeeNews.
