Air Serbia operated its inaugural nonstop flight between Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on 22 May 2026, restoring direct service between Serbia and Canada for the first time in more than three decades (Air Serbia). Direct flights between the two cities had last operated under predecessor carrier JAT Yugoslav Airlines in the early 1990s.
The route is a seasonal summer service running twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, operated with Airbus A330-200 widebody aircraft. Toronto Pearson confirmed that Air Serbia's service creates the only direct air link between Toronto and Belgrade (Toronto Pearson). Toronto becomes the airline's third North American destination after New York JFK and Chicago O'Hare.
Toronto is home to a significant Serbian and Balkan diaspora community, with an estimated 50,000 passengers traveling annually between the two cities currently via connecting hubs such as Warsaw, facing journey times several hours longer than the new nonstop service. At approximately 4,006 nautical miles (7,419 km), Belgrade–Toronto ranks among the longer transatlantic sectors Air Serbia operates (Aviation Week). Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek described the launch as a "significant symbolic and strategic step forward" for the carrier.
