VietJet Air confirmed on August 10, 2026 that it will launch nonstop service from Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) to Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport starting January 10, 2027. Flights will operate twice weekly, departing Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 21:20 and arriving at Western Sydney at 10:00 the following day; return flights depart Wednesdays and Sundays at 12:05, landing in Ho Chi Minh City at 16:30, per Business Traveller. Service increases to three weekly flights from March 2027. The route is operated on Airbus A330 aircraft configured with 377 seats.
The Ho Chi Minh City service is supported by the New South Wales Government's Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, an initiative designed to attract airlines to the new airport. VietJet becomes the fifth carrier to commit to Western Sydney International, alongside Qantas, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines, and Air New Zealand. It is also VietJet's fifth Australian destination, after Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney Airport (Kingsford Smith).
Aviation Week and FlightGlobal both confirmed the route. Western Sydney International Airport commenced cargo operations on July 27, 2026, with passenger services set to open in October 2026.
