Qatar Airways launched service connecting Doha with Bogota and Caracas on November 4, 2026, becoming the first Gulf carrier to operate scheduled flights to Venezuela. The twice-weekly triangle route operates on Wednesdays and Sundays using Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.
Flights depart from Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha and stop at Bogota's El Dorado International Airport before continuing to Caracas's Simon Bolivar International Airport (CCS). Bogota's elevation, more than 8,300 feet above sea level, prevents the airline from operating nonstop service from Doha, making the Colombian capital a required intermediate stop, as Business Traveller reported.
The launch had been delayed multiple times. Qatar originally announced a July 22 start, then pushed back to September 2, before the service finally commenced in November, per Business Traveller.
With Bogota and Caracas now on the network, Qatar Airways serves 17 destinations across the Americas, extending a South American operation that began in Sao Paulo in 2010. Passengers can connect onward through Doha to more than 170 cities. The airline has a commercial partnership with LATAM Airlines for South American connections, per Business Traveller. Colombia's flower export trade is cited as a potential cargo revenue source for the new service.
The route competes with Turkish Airlines and Emirates, which already connect South America and the Middle East via their respective hubs, as confirmed by Arabian Business.
