Shenzhen Airlines (IATA: ZH) announced on September 9, 2026, that it will launch nonstop service between Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (SZX) and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) starting December 14, 2026, per AeroRoutes. Sydney becomes the Star Alliance carrier's second Australian destination, following the launch of Melbourne flights in December 2025.
The service will operate four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Outbound ZH815 departs Shenzhen at 00:20 and arrives in Sydney at 13:40 local time; the return ZH816 departs Sydney at 22:30 and arrives in Shenzhen the following morning at 05:25. Flight duration is approximately 10 hours 20 minutes outbound and 9 hours 55 minutes eastbound. Aircraft are Airbus A330-300s configured with 18 business class, 24 premium economy, and 267 economy seats, per Flight Hacks.
The new service will add approximately 130,000 seats a year to the Shenzhen–Sydney market, joining China Southern's existing nonstop flights on the sector. Shenzhen Airlines becomes the tenth Chinese carrier serving Sydney Airport, according to Australian Aviation. Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton noted that Chinese nationals are the airport's second-largest international traveller group, up 13.9% year-on-year.
