Air Canada will launch the first nonstop service between Atlantic Canada and Barbados on December 17, 2026, with a weekly flight from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) to Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) in Bridgetown. The service operates every Thursday using a 177-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8, PAX News reports.
The launch follows more than 18 months of engagement between Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Air Canada, and regional trade partners in Atlantic Canada, according to St. Vincent Times, which cited the BTMI announcement. "With this new nonstop service, Barbados continues to strengthen its position within the Canadian market," BTMI CEO Andrea Franklin said at the announcement.
Joyce Carter, president and CEO of Halifax International Airport Authority, noted that Nova Scotia and Barbados share a longstanding connection, with Barbados ranking as one of the province's most popular Caribbean destinations. Canada is one of Barbados's key source markets, with 2025 recording the highest Canadian visitor arrivals to the island in 45 years, per BTMI data cited by Travel Market Report.
The Halifax-Bridgetown route is part of Air Canada's broader winter 2026-27 Caribbean expansion confirmed by Aviation Week, which also includes new Tenerife routes from Toronto and Montreal.
