WestJet announced on July 20, 2026, that it will launch weekly nonstop service between Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG) and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic, beginning November 28, 2026.
The new service is the earliest of WestJet's five new winter 2026-27 routes to launch, giving travelers from Manitoba a direct connection to one of the Caribbean's most popular resort destinations ahead of the peak holiday period, according to Dominican Today.
Sunwing Vacations, part of the WestJet Group, will offer vacation packages on the route beginning November 4, 2026, slightly ahead of the flight-only service start date, according to PAX News. The packages run through April 30, 2027.
WestJet also added a second new Winnipeg winter route in the same announcement: nonstop service to Belize City, also beginning December 14, further expanding Manitoba's direct sun destination options. All five of WestJet's new winter routes will operate once weekly.
