WestJet announced on July 20, 2026, that it will launch weekly nonstop service between Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) and Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR), beginning December 20, 2026.

The Ottawa-Liberia route is the last of WestJet's five new winter 2026-27 routes to begin service. Sunwing Vacations, part of the WestJet Group, will offer Ottawa-Liberia vacation packages for the first time as part of this expansion, making it a new addition to its winter lineup for eastern Canadian travelers, according to PAX News.

Liberia is the capital of Costa Rica's Guanacaste province and serves as the primary gateway to the country's Pacific coast beaches and national parks including Rincon de la Vieja and Santa Rosa. WestJet says it will maintain its position as the leading Canadian airline serving Liberia during the winter season.

All five new routes were announced simultaneously on July 20 and will operate weekly through April 2027. "We are excited to offer more ways for guests to trade their snow boots for sandals," said John Weatherill, WestJet's EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, per Travelweek.
