WestJet launched once-weekly nonstop service between Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG) and Reykjavík Keflavík International Airport (KEF) on 27 June 2026, with the return flight from Reykjavík to Winnipeg beginning 28 June 2026. The seasonal service is operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, per the official WestJet press release issued in November 2025.
WestJet Vice-President April Crane noted the route "holds special meaning for Manitoba's Icelandic community," with Winnipeg home to one of the largest Icelandic diaspora communities outside Iceland. Keflavík Airport's Guðmundur Daði Rúnarsson called the combined Edmonton and Winnipeg Iceland launches a reflection of WestJet's "strong confidence in the Iceland market," per Keflavík Airport.
The Winnipeg route was first announced in November 2025 alongside the Edmonton–Reykjavík service, with both commencing within a day of each other at the end of June 2026. Together they join WestJet's existing Calgary–Keflavík operation, giving the airline service from three major Canadian cities to Iceland for summer 2026. According to Simple Flying, the transatlantic expansion makes 2026 WestJet's largest-ever European summer, with eight new routes from four Canadian bases. The 737 MAX 8 fleet used on these routes is configured with 12 business class and 162 economy seats.
