Brussels Airlines will launch scheduled service between Brussels Airport (BRU) and Kemi-Tornio Airport (KEM) in northern Finland on December 25, 2026. The route will operate up to twice weekly through March 10, 2027, using Airbus A320 aircraft, according to the airline's official press release and schedule data from AeroRoutes.
The announcement was made on August 17, 2026, as part of a three-destination Arctic expansion for the 2026-27 winter season. Brussels Airlines has previously served Kemi only through charter flights in partnership with travel agencies. The new scheduled service opens the route to independent travelers who can book directly through the airline or travel agents without a package deal, the carrier noted.
Kemi is located at the northern end of the Gulf of Bothnia, near the border with Sweden. The city is known for its SnowCastle attraction, which is rebuilt each winter, and serves as a gateway to wider northern Finnish Lapland. The region draws winter tourists for Northern Lights sightings, snowmobile safaris and reindeer experiences, according to AeroTime.
The Kemi service is part of Brussels Airlines' broader strategy to reduce the seasonal concentration of its revenue in summer months by building a stronger winter leisure offer. The Belgian carrier, part of the Lufthansa Group, said growing demand for Arctic winter holidays underpins the three-route expansion. Tickets for Kemi, along with sister routes to Kittilä and Evenes, are now on sale through Brussels Airlines and travel agencies.
