SAS Restores Copenhagen–Mumbai Nonstops After 17-Year Gap, Finally Launching October 1

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will launch year-round nonstop service between Copenhagen Airport (CPH) and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai (BOM) on October 1, 2026, operating five times weekly with Airbus A330 aircraft, according to Aviation Week.

The October 1 date follows an unusually dramatic false start. The route had originally been scheduled to debut on June 2, but the inaugural aircraft departed Copenhagen and was then forced to return after it became clear that final regulatory approval from Indian aviation authorities had not yet been secured. Subsequent services were postponed while SAS obtained the required clearance.

The route marks SAS's return to India after a 17-year absence. Business Travel News confirmed the October 1 launch date, five weekly frequencies, and A330 equipment, consistent with the Aviation Week report.

SAS Chief Commercial Officer Paul Verhagen said: "This strategic route represents an extraordinary milestone for SAS, opening doors between Scandinavia and one of the world's most dynamic economic hubs."

Copenhagen–Mumbai gives Scandinavian and Nordic travellers a nonstop gateway to India's financial capital, while providing Indian passengers direct access to the SAS hub for onward connections across Scandinavia, Northern Europe and beyond.
