Air Greenland inaugurates direct service between Ilulissat (JAV) and Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) on October 29, 2026, the same day Greenland Airports officially opens Ilulissat's new international airport. The inaugural flight is operated by Air Greenland's Airbus A330neo, Tuukkaq.
Regular scheduled service begins from November 2026, wet-leased to Jettime on a Boeing 737-800 with 180-seat capacity. Flights operate primarily on Wednesdays, with additional Monday departures during the Christmas and New Year holiday period and from March 1-27, 2027, per Air Greenland's campaign page. From spring 2027, Air Greenland's incoming Airbus A320neo, Unaaq, will take over the route, with frequencies growing to as many as six times weekly during peak summer.
Published timetables show flight GL707 departing Copenhagen at 09:45 and arriving Ilulissat at 11:45 local time, with the return GL708 leaving Ilulissat at 13:15 and landing Copenhagen at 21:00.
Air Greenland describes the opening as the completion of the last of Greenland's three new airports, ending a long-running national infrastructure programme. Ilulissat becomes the country's second international hub, complementing Nuuk as the primary gateway. Travellers can connect onward from Ilulissat to Aasiaat, Qaarsut, Upernavik, and Qaanaaq via Air Greenland's domestic Dash 8 Q200 and helicopter network.
Aviation Week notes the new runway length permits jet operations that were not previously possible at the older facility.
