Riyadh Air confirmed on July 1, 2026 that it will launch year-round nonstop service between Riyadh King Khalid International Airport (RUH) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) starting July 30, operating three times weekly with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Business Travel News and Aviation Week both confirmed the announcement alongside two simultaneously revealed routes: seasonal Riyadh–Malaga service (July 14 through September 8) and daily Riyadh–Dhaka flights beginning August 7. All three routes use the carrier's 787-9 fleet, which reached five aircraft at the time of the announcement with a sixth delivery expected shortly.
Kuala Lumpur is Riyadh Air's first Southeast Asian destination and reflects the Saudi startup's strategy of connecting the Arabian Peninsula with major hubs across Asia. The airline, Saudi Arabia's second national carrier established under Vision 2030, began formal commercial operations in June 2026 with services to London Heathrow, Jeddah, Dubai, Cairo, and Madrid, and has been expanding its network rapidly since receiving its first 787-9 deliveries.
Malaysia's Muslim-majority population sustains strong year-round demand for travel to Saudi Arabia, particularly for Umrah religious visits to Mecca and Medina. The Riyadh–Kuala Lumpur corridor is currently served by Malaysia Airlines and other carriers via one-stop routings; Riyadh Air's nonstop will provide a new direct option for religious, leisure, and business travelers. Future expansion plans on file with aviation authorities have also identified Bangkok, Jakarta, and Manila as additional Southeast Asian targets.
