Greater Bay Airlines (GBA, IATA: HB) confirmed in a 15 June 2026 press release that it will launch a seasonal nonstop service between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG) from 4 September to 16 October 2026. The route operates three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Flight HB868 departs Hong Kong at 14:30 and arrives Chongqing at 16:55; the return service HB869 departs Chongqing at 18:00 and lands in Hong Kong at 20:25. Full schedule data was independently published by AeroRoutes on 18 June 2026 and subsequently referenced in Aviation Week's rolling daily updates for the week of 22 June 2026.
GBA cited growing passenger demand for the new route. At approximately 1,096 km (681 miles), the Hong Kong–Chongqing sector is a short-haul hop well-matched to the 737-800. Chongqing — a sprawling megacity of over 30 million and a major industrial, cultural and tourism hub in southwestern China — is known for its distinctive river-cliff architecture at Hongya Cave and the UNESCO-recognised karst formations at Wulong Three Natural Bridges, both of which attract significant autumn visitor traffic.
The two-month window targets the peak autumn travel period between the Mid-Autumn Festival and China's Golden Week. GBA, which launched scheduled operations in July 2022, currently connects Hong Kong to destinations across mainland China, Japan, the Philippines and Southeast Asia with a fleet of Boeing 737-800 and 737 MAX 9 aircraft.
