Delta deepens LAX investment with new service to Hong Kong and Chicago

Delta Air Lines resumed nonstop service to Hong Kong on 6 June 2026 with the inauguration of daily flights between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), ending an eight-year absence—Delta last served Hong Kong from Seattle in October 2018. The 7,243-mile route is operated by the Airbus A350-900, configured in four cabins with 40 Delta One suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin, for a total of 275 seats. Outbound flight DL89 departs LAX at 11:30 PM and arrives in Hong Kong at 5:00 AM two days later (crossing the International Date Line); the return DL88 departs Hong Kong at 9:25 AM and arrives in Los Angeles at 7:55 AM, with westbound block times reaching up to 15 hours and 30–45 minutes.

With this launch, Delta joins Cathay Pacific (up to three daily flights) and United Airlines (up to two daily) as a third nonstop operator on the corridor, adding roughly 4,300 weekly seats and increasing total nonstop route capacity by more than 20%, per AviationCircle. Delta's original announcement was made via PR Newswire in July 2025, and the route is part of the carrier's strategy to deepen its footprint at LAX, which it describes as its largest gateway by seats and departures. Passengers in Delta One class have access to the Delta One Lounge at LAX, which features a sushi bar, outdoor terrace, and wellness room.
