Ryanair will launch service between Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (GOT) and Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) from October 25, 2026, the start of the IATA winter 2026/27 season. The route is part of a five-route Swedish expansion announced on September 10 under the carrier's record winter 2026 programme for Sweden, per the Ryanair corporate press release. Boeing 737 aircraft will operate the service.
Ryanair's winter 2026 Sweden schedule spans 43 routes across eight based aircraft, with one additional Boeing 737 newly stationed at Stockholm Arlanda. The full programme targets 4.6 million annual passengers in Sweden, a 16% increase over the previous year, with total Swedish fleet investment of US$800 million. The five new winter routes connect Stockholm with Rabat, Warsaw, and Wroclaw, while Gothenburg gains Budapest and Malmö is linked to London, per Aviation24.be.
Gothenburg is Sweden's second-largest city, a major industrial and port hub on the west coast with strong links to the automotive, shipping, and logistics sectors. The new service gives Gothenburg its first direct low-cost connection to Budapest, Hungary's capital and a popular leisure and business destination for Scandinavian travelers.
Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson warned that planned Swedish security fee increases of up to 67% from March 2027, if not reversed by the government, could threaten the carrier's future growth ambitions in the country.
