American Airlines will launch nonstop service between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York and Calgary International Airport (YYC) on August 6, 2026 - the first time any US carrier has operated this city pair, according to Simple Flying. The seasonal service runs three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays using a 172-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8, with the final 2026 departure on October 4.

The JFK-Calgary market was previously served by Air Canada from 2006 to 2009. WestJet has operated the route since 2014 and until now has been the sole carrier. American's entry makes this the first time two airlines have competed simultaneously on the city pair, per Simple Flying.

The Calgary launch is part of 13 new international routes American is adding in 2026 across its US hubs, covering Europe, Canada, the Caribbean and South America, according to NJ.com. From JFK, American is also launching daily service to Quebec City (YQB) on August 5 using American Eagle Embraer E175s.

JFK is American's tenth-busiest hub by August departures, with the airline planning an average of 91 daily outbound flights - a 2% year-over-year increase and the highest level for four years, per OAG data cited by Simple Flying. Calgary, Alberta's largest city, serves as the primary gateway to Banff and Jasper national parks.
