American Airlines announced on October 16, 2026 that it will launch its first-ever nonstop service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Barcelona, Venezuela (BLA) — served by General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport — beginning January 15, 2027. The route will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays using Embraer E175 regional jets with a premium cabin, Wi-Fi, and in-seat power, per the American Airlines newsroom.
The southbound flight departs Miami at 10:15 a.m. ET and arrives in Barcelona at 2:52 p.m. local time; the return departs Barcelona at 3:32 p.m. and arrives in Miami at 6:19 p.m. ET, an approximately three-and-a-half-hour flight per Simple Flying. Tickets go on sale October 19 via aa.com and the American Airlines mobile app.
Barcelona joins Caracas and Maracaibo as American's third Venezuelan destination, bringing its total US–Venezuela capacity to 24 weekly flights: twice-daily to Caracas, daily to Maracaibo, and three weekly to Barcelona. The announcement comes as part of American's progressive restoration of Venezuelan operations — the carrier returned to Caracas in April 2026 as the first US airline to resume Venezuela service after a seven-year absence, as Airways Magazine reported. Barcelona and nearby Puerto La Cruz are major commercial centers in Anzoátegui state, home to significant oil and energy industry activity.
