Air Cairo launched scheduled direct service between Cairo International Airport (CAI) and Athens International Airport (ATH) on July 25, 2026, adding Greece to its network for the first time, according to the airline's official press release. Athens International Airport's communications director Ioanna Papadopoulou said the new routes "strengthen the air links between Greece and Egypt" and "reflect our two countries' longstanding historical, cultural and economic ties," as quoted in the Air Cairo press release. Air Cairo Chief Commercial Officer Ahmed Aziz confirmed at the inauguration that the airline plans to expand its Greek network by adding direct services from Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh to Athens in coming months, targeting European travelers seeking access to Egypt's Red Sea resort destinations, per the Air Cairo press release.
