Finnair will launch daily service between Helsinki Airport (HEL) and Melbourne Airport (MEL) via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) on October 25, 2026, using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The same aircraft and flight number operate both legs, departing Helsinki at 23:50 and continuing from Bangkok to Melbourne, according to published schedule data. The return Melbourne departure operates from October 26.
The route grants Finnair fifth-freedom rights on the Bangkok–Melbourne sector, meaning passengers can book either leg independently as a standalone flight, according to Aviation Week. The service will connect to approximately 90 destinations across Finnair's European network via Helsinki.
Finnair becomes one of a small number of European carriers operating to Australia with their own aircraft. Turkish Airlines currently serves Melbourne and Sydney via Southeast Asia, while British Airways serves Sydney and is scheduled to return to Melbourne on January 11, 2027, per Wisevoter.
The route was announced in December 2025 and marks Finnair's first scheduled service to Australia. The A350-900 is configured with 278 to 321 seats depending on variant.
