British Airways will add Zanzibar (Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, ZNZ) as a new destination from London Gatwick (LGW) starting May 29, 2027, on a triangular routing under flight number BA2163, operating three times per week through October 31, 2027, according to the airline's official press release.
The routing is asymmetric: outbound, BA2163 flies Gatwick to Kilimanjaro (JRO), then continues to Zanzibar. Northbound, the aircraft departs Zanzibar nonstop to Gatwick (departing 00:25, arriving 07:55 the following morning), per Mr. Plane Guy. The Boeing 777 operates in Club World (business), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and World Traveller (economy) cabins. Return fares from London start at £849 including taxes.
Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro are added simultaneously as British Airways's first Tanzanian destinations. The airline has not operated scheduled service to Tanzania for approximately 15 years, according to Simple Flying. The triangular structure allows travellers to fly into Kilimanjaro for a safari, travel overland through Tanzania, and fly home from Zanzibar.
The seasonal schedule targets UK school holidays and peak safari season. BA's British Airways Holidays arm is offering seven-night packages from Zanzibar starting at £1,499 per person for travel in June 2027, per the official press release.
