Avianca launched daily nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Barranquilla's Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ) on July 15, 2026, deploying the Airbus A320 [Aviacionline, Simple Flying]. The route is entirely new to Avianca's network — the airline had never operated nonstop FLL–Barranquilla flights before this launch [Sun Sentinel, The Bulkhead Seat]. Barranquilla, famous for hosting one of the world's largest Carnival celebrations, loses its last remaining direct US service after Spirit Airlines' collapse in early 2026 closed the Barranquilla–Fort Lauderdale route the carrier had operated since 2010 [Simple Flying].
Service AV0228 departs Barranquilla at 16:25 local time and arrives at Fort Lauderdale at 20:20. The return leg, AV0229, departs Fort Lauderdale at 22:10 and arrives in Barranquilla at 00:05 the following day [Aviacionline]. With this addition and the simultaneous Cali launch, Avianca now operates a record four Colombia routes from Fort Lauderdale, joining its existing Bogotá and Medellín services [Simple Flying, The Bulkhead Seat].
JetBlue has announced competing daily FLL–Barranquilla service from October, which would mark the first time two carriers have simultaneously operated the market since 2011 [Simple Flying]. Fort Lauderdale Airport's official social media confirmed the July 15 start date for Barranquilla service ahead of the launch [Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Instagram].
