Official black and yellow taxis are available 24/7 from the taxi ranks outside the arrivals areas of both Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). Fares to the city center are metered and include airport surcharges. Ride-sharing services like Cabify and FreeNow also operate at the airport, with designated pick-up points.
Major international and local car rental companies (including Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Europcar) have desks in the arrivals halls of both T1 and T2. It is advisable to book in advance for better pricing. Cars are picked up from the multi-story car parks located opposite the terminals.
Several options connect the airport to Barcelona. The Aerobús is an express shuttle bus running frequently between both terminals and the city center (Plaça de Catalunya). The Metro line L9 Sud connects both T1 and T2 to the city's metro network. The RENFE R2 Nord train departs from a station at Terminal 2 (a free shuttle bus connects T1) and travels to major city stations like Sants and Passeig de Grà cia. Regular public TMB buses (Line 46) and night buses (N17/N18) offer a cheaper, albeit slower, alternative.
Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport is an international airport located 15 km southwest of the centre of Barcelona, lying in the municipalities of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans, and Sant Boi, in Catalonia, Spain.
It is the second largest and second busiest airport in Spain, and the sixth busiest in Europe. In 2019, Barcelona Airport handled a record 52,686,314 million passengers, up 5.0% from 2018. It is a hub for Level and Vueling, and a focus city for Air Europa, Iberia, EasyJet and Ryanair.
The Barcelona–Madrid air shuttle service, known as "Pont Aeri" or "Puente Aéreo", literally "Air Bridge", was the world's busiest route until 2008, with the highest number of flight operations in 2007. The schedule has been reduced since February 2008, when a Madrid–Barcelona high-speed rail line was opened, covering the distance in 2 hours 30 minutes, and quickly became popular.
