Vueling (ICAO: VLG) is a Spanish low-cost airline that has established itself as a significant player in the European aviation market.
Vueling S.A. was founded on February 10, 2004, and began operations on July 1, 2004, with an initial fleet of two Airbus A320 aircraft flying between Barcelona and Ibiza. The name "Vueling" combines the Spanish word "vuelo" (flight) with the English gerund suffix "-ing." In 2009, Vueling merged with fellow Spanish low-cost carrier Clickair, operating under the Vueling brand, which positioned it as the second-largest Spanish carrier at the time. Since 2013, Vueling has been an operating company of International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus.
The airline's main hub and operational heart is Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN) in Spain. Vueling also operates with secondary hubs and operational bases across Europe, including Paris Orly Airport (ORY) in France, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) in the Netherlands, London Gatwick Airport (LGW) in the UK, and Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Florence Airport (FLR) in Italy. Other key bases include Alicante, Bilbao, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago de Compostela, Seville, Tenerife–North, and Valencia.
Vueling operates an all-Airbus fleet, primarily consisting of the Airbus A319, A320, and A321 family aircraft. As of early 2025, its fleet includes Airbus A319, A320ceo, A320neo, A321ceo, and A321neo aircraft. Vueling's route network is extensive, connecting major European cities, Mediterranean destinations, North Africa, and the Middle East, serving over 100 destinations across approximately 30 countries. While Vueling is not part of any major global airline alliance, it is part of the IAG group and has codeshare agreements with several airlines, including Iberia and British Airways, allowing for broader destination access. Vueling offers a tiered seating system rather than a traditional business class, including "Space One" (row 1), "Space Plus" (rows 2-4), and "Space" seats, which offer more legroom, priority boarding, and exclusive overhead locker access. Standard seats are also available for budget-conscious travelers. The airline also provides a buy-on-board service for food and drinks. Vueling Club is its frequent flyer program, where members can earn and redeem Avios points on Vueling and IAG airlines like Iberia and British Airways.
