Taxis are available 24/7 at the designated ranks directly outside the terminal buildings on the arrivals level. The official airport taxis are cream-colored. Fares are metered, and the journey to Stuttgart city center takes approximately 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Rides can also be pre-booked.
The Car Rental Center is located in Terminal 3 on Level 2. A wide range of international and local companies operate here, including Sixt, Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and Enterprise/Alamo. It is advisable to book your vehicle in advance. After completing the rental agreement, cars are picked up from a nearby parking garage.
The airport is directly connected to the S-Bahn (suburban train) network. The station is located in Terminal 1, Level 1. Lines S2 (towards Schorndorf) and S3 (towards Backnang) run to Stuttgart's main train station (Hauptbahnhof) in approximately 27 minutes. Trains depart every 10-20 minutes during the day. Additionally, the Stuttgart Airport Bus Terminal (SAB) is located next to Terminal 4 and serves local, regional, and long-distance bus routes.
Stuttgart Airport is the international airport of Stuttgart, the capital of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It is christened in honor of Stuttgart's former mayor, Manfred Rommel, son of Erwin Rommel, and is the sixth busiest airport in Germany with 11,832,634 passengers having passed through its doors in 2018.
The airport is operated by Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH. It goes back to Luftverkehr Württemberg AG, which was founded in 1924 and initially operated Böblingen Airport. Since 2008, 65% of the operating company is owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg and 35% by the city of Stuttgart. It is located approximately 13 km in a straight line south of Stuttgart and lies on the boundary between the nearby town of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Filderstadt and Stuttgart itself. In 2007, the Stuttgart Trade Fair – the ninth biggest exhibition centre in Germany – moved to grounds directly next to the airport. Additionally, the global headquarters for car parking company APCOA Parking are located here.
