Condor Flugdienst Airlines (ICAO: CFG): A Comprehensive Overview
Condor Flugdienst GmbH, commonly known as Condor, is a German leisure airline headquartered in Neu-Isenburg, Hesse, with its main operational base at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). Founded on December 21, 1955, as Deutsche Flugdienst GmbH by a consortium including Norddeutscher Lloyd, Hamburg-Amerika-Linie, Deutsche Lufthansa, and Deutsche Bundesbahn, it commenced tourist-oriented flights in March 1956. The airline adopted the name Condor Flugdienst GmbH in 1961 after taking over Condor-Luftreederei.
Condor operates both scheduled and charter flights, focusing on medium-haul routes to popular vacation destinations in the Mediterranean Basin and the Canary Islands, as well as long-haul flights to Africa, Asia, North America, South America, and the Caribbean. While medium-haul flights depart from various German airports and Zurich, long-haul services primarily originate from Frankfurt, with some charter flights from Düsseldorf and Munich. In summer 2025, Condor is expanding its European city network to include destinations like Rome, Milan, Prague, Vienna, Zurich, Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich, and increasing frequencies on some long-haul routes.
The airline's fleet is undergoing significant modernization. As of 2024, Condor completed the renewal of its long-haul fleet, which now consists of 18 highly efficient Airbus A330neo aircraft, with plans to expand to 25 by 2031. Since 2024, it has also begun renewing its short and medium-haul fleet, expecting to receive 43 new aircraft from the Airbus A32Xneo family by 2029, replacing its existing Airbus A320 family and Boeing 757-300 aircraft. Condor offers Business Class, Premium Economy Class, and Economy Class services. On long-haul flights, Business Class features lie-flat seats, gourmet menus, and personal 4K entertainment screens with free content and in-flight Wi-Fi on A330neo aircraft. Premium Economy offers more legroom, upgraded meals, and amenity kits, while Economy includes standard meals and non-alcoholic beverages on long-haul flights. Condor does not belong to a major global airline alliance but has codeshare and frequent flyer partnerships with airlines such as Alaska Airlines and Emirates.
