Mengen-Hohentengen Airfield (EDTM), also known as Regio-Airport Mengen, is a civil public aerodrome located in Mengen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is one of the largest general aviation airfields in the region, handling approximately 29,000 aircraft movements annually.
Type of Facility and Operations: EDTM operates as a civil public aerodrome, supporting various aviation activities including ultralight aircraft, gliders, motor gliders, and motor flights. The airfield is approved for instrument flights (IFR) and offers flight training. It functions as an international Airport of Entry with customs services available. Mengen-Hohentengen Airfield also serves as a test site for autonomous flight, providing facilities and UAV flight permits for both visual line of sight (VLOS) and beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations within a multi-kilometer flight area. The airfield features two runways: an asphalt runway measuring 1566m x 30m (5138ft) and a grass runway of 700m x 30m. Up to 100 aircraft can be stationed at the airfield.
Notable Features and History: The airfield has a military origin, initially established in 1939 by the Luftwaffe. It was utilized militarily until 1978, including by French forces after World War II, before being converted to its current civil status. Historically, the Dornier Do 335, a high-speed World War II fighter, was tested at the airfield. More recently, EDTM has hosted events such as the Open German Helicopter Championships in 2009 and 2019. The airfield is equipped with modern approach lighting.
