Taxis are available 24/7 at the official taxi rank located directly outside the arrivals hall. The trip to Heraklion city center typically takes 15-20 minutes. Fares are metered, but it's advisable to confirm the approximate cost with the driver beforehand. Pre-booked transfer services are also widely available.
Several international and local car rental companies (including Hertz, Avis, Sixt, and Budget) have desks within the arrivals area of the terminal. It is highly recommended to book a vehicle in advance, especially during the peak tourist season, to ensure availability and better pricing. Car pick-up lots are situated a short walk from the terminal building.
Public city buses provide a frequent and economical link to Heraklion city center. The bus stop is located just outside the terminal. Buses run regularly throughout the day, connecting the airport to the main bus station (Bus Station A), from where you can find intercity connections to other parts of Crete. Tickets can be purchased from the kiosk at the bus stop or from the driver.
