Official taxis are available 24/7 at the taxi rank located directly outside Hall 1. The journey to Nantes city center takes approximately 15-20 minutes and typically costs between €30 and €40, depending on traffic and time of day.
Major car rental companies like Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt have desks located on the esplanade, just opposite the terminal building. Pre-booking your vehicle online is highly recommended for better rates and to ensure availability.
The main option is the 'Navette Aéroport' (Airport Shuttle), a dedicated bus service that runs every 20-30 minutes and connects the airport directly to the city center and the main train station (Gare de Nantes) in about 25 minutes. A cheaper alternative is public bus line 38, which connects to the 'Pirmil' tram stop, allowing transfers to the city's tram network.
FWIW, the decision to move from Nantes Atlantique Airport in the South of Nantes to Notre Dame Des Landes in the North of Nantes has been abandoned.
[Written on 11/11/2012] The decision to move from Nantes Atlantique Airport in the South of Nantes to Notre Dame Des Landes in the North of Nantes is not yet taken. There is a strong opposition to this project. Moreover, if the new airport opens, the old one will not close because it is used by the AirBus company for assembling the planes.
The present airport situated in the South of Nantes is going to move soon to the North of Nantes, between Rennes and Nantes.
It is intended to become the main airport of the West of France.
It is likely that much of the traffic now going through CDG Paris will go through this new airport in a few years.
