Official, licensed taxis are available outside the arrivals terminal. It is highly recommended to use these or pre-booked services from reputable companies. Agree on the fare with the driver before starting your journey, as meters are not always used. Ride-hailing apps, such as T'Leva, may also be an option.
Several international car rental agencies, including Avis, Hertz, and Sixt, have desks inside the airport's arrivals hall. It is advisable to book in advance. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is often required along with your valid driver's license. Be aware that driving in Luanda can be challenging due to heavy traffic.
There are no direct, dedicated public bus or train services connecting the airport to the city center that are suitable for international travelers with luggage. The city's public transport consists mainly of informal minibus taxis (candongueiros), which can be crowded, unsafe, and difficult for visitors to navigate. Taxis or pre-arranged hotel shuttles are the recommended options.
American-registered Boeing 727 N844AA, formerly owned by American Airlines, was stolen from Luanda Airport on May 25, 2003. It has never been found, though there was a possible sighting at Conakry Airport (CKY) in Guinea:
