Official airport taxis are available 24/7 from dedicated ranks outside the arrivals areas of both the North and South Terminals. The journey to central London typically takes 60-90 minutes. Pre-booked private hire vehicles (minicabs) are also a popular option and can be met at designated pick-up points.
Major car rental companies, including Avis, Hertz, Europcar, and Sixt, have desks in the arrivals halls of both terminals. Rental car lots are located on-site or nearby, often connected by a free shuttle bus. The airport provides direct access to the M23 motorway for easy travel to London, Brighton, and the rest of the UK.
Gatwick is well-connected by public transport.
Trains: The airport's train station is located at the South Terminal (with a free shuttle from the North Terminal).
- Gatwick Express: The fastest, non-stop service to London Victoria in about 30 minutes.
- Thameslink: Services run through central London to destinations like London Bridge, Blackfriars, and St Pancras International.
- Southern: Offers regular services to London Victoria, Clapham Junction, and coastal cities like Brighton.
Buses & Coaches: National Express and other coach services operate from the lower forecourts of both terminals, providing connections to London Victoria, other UK airports, and cities across the country.
Hi there, I would like to know where you can watch planes safely without breaking the law or interfering with the airport security and police?
I have found 1 or 2 places. 1 is on the footbridge 117 over the railway line just to the north of the airport between Horley and Gatwick. 2 is also on a bridge 120 by the perimeter road (A23). On the footpath between Charlwood and Ifield Hall by the approach lights. Lastly another up on the hill by Russ Hill Hotel near Ifield Windmill. I hope this helps people!?
Good view from the Sofitel hotel
An unemployed chef managed to live in Gatwick's South Terminal for almost four years before he was finally arrested:

Gatwick was the first airport I ever landed at outside of North America. It was my first time flying overseas, and we flew Wardair (a Canadian airline, sadly no longer in business). I remember the excitement of seeing the green fields of England after the long trans-Atlantic flight. When the plane landed, I started to clap, and all of the passengers joined me in spontaneous applause.
Almost 20 years ago, I remember the access to the tube to get into London was good, as was access to the south, where we were headed.
