Approximately 1995
Military base conversion and withdrawal. The heliport was decommissioned following the departure of the United States Army's V Corps from the IG Farben Building complex. After the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany, the US military presence in Frankfurt was significantly reduced, and the entire site was returned to the German government.
The site of the former heliport has been completely redeveloped. The entire IG Farben Building complex was transferred to the state of Hesse and, in 2001, became the Westend Campus for Goethe University Frankfurt. The specific location of the heliport is now landscaped parkland and part of the university campus grounds, integrated with the adjacent Grüneburgpark. There are no visible remnants of the former aviation facility.
The Casino Army Heliport was a private military heliport located on the grounds of the IG Farben Building, which served as the headquarters for the V Corps, United States Army, from 1945 until 1995. The name 'Casino' refers to the Officers' Club (Kasino in German) that was part of the American military compound. The heliport was strategically important for VIP transport, serving high-ranking military officers, government officials, and dignitaries visiting the V Corps headquarters. It facilitated rapid transportation and liaison during the Cold War, a period when V Corps was a key component of NATO's defense of Western Europe, particularly the strategically vital Fulda Gap.
None. The site is now a public university campus and a protected historic landmark in a densely populated urban area. There are no plans, needs, or possibilities for reopening the heliport.
