Does anyone know who I would call to find out the current fees for landing and staying for less then an hour to pick someone up?

Hamilton Posted by on March 11, 2014

My wife and I flew into Hamilton airport about five years ago or so with Globespan from Newcastle England. It was really handy for getting to Toronto and meant we could avoid all the hassle of Pearson.Sadly Globespan went bust not long after and that was the end for Hamilton and flights from U.K. I think. We really loved our stay in Canada...wonderful friendly people and an awesome country.

Friendly ATC Posted by dazuppa on February 4, 2013

I've only been to CYHM for touch and go's, but flew through their airspace and near it quite frequently while going to Niagara area and back - day and night, winter and summer.

Airport itself is large, way too much than average GA pilot may ever need - and located in a strategically excellent spot. Easy to find, and though there is a lot (as in - a lot!) of through and local traffic, never a problem to deal with thanks to an excellent, very professional ATC. Thanks guys, you set the standards in my books! Few controlled airspaces I've been to are as friendly and comfortable to deal with.

Landing Fee's Posted by on April 22, 2012

First of all thanks @david for bring the facility fee for Glanford to my attention i did not know about that and would have been pretty upset if i were to show up their and get a bill like that for sure! Second I'm noticing that YHM is waiving it's landing fee's on certain occasions to attract GA traffic. does anyone know if the facility fee for certain places will be waived? or is their a place on the field to park were you wont get charged these " hidden fee's"

thanks in advance

Expensive airport Posted by david on October 19, 2010

I just called Glanford Aviation (Shell), the only FBO that appears to offer 100LL, and they charge a $25 facility fee for a single-engine piston plane (not waived with a fill-up) on top of the airport's $18.50 minimum landing fee. That means that you're out $43.50 + HST = $48.72 the second your wheels hit the Shell apron, before you even start to put fuel in your tank. Would you fill up your car at a gas station that charged almost $50 to just to enter their lot and park in front of the pump?

Even big-city airports are usually much cheaper than this (Pearson is, of course, an exception). I don't know what the city of Hamilton (and Shell) are thinking, except that they want to scare as many visitors as possible away from Hamilton, and make sure no one spends any money in the local economy.

Chipmunk 035 Posted by AwakeAndUnafraid on June 18, 2010

I don't know whether it is still there, but Chipmunk #035 was once in the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum collection. It was the first aircraft I flew, and the one in which I flew my first solo. And it still looked to be in pretty good shape when I saw it there decades later, all shiny with the faint scent of nervous pilot sweat in the leathery cockpit!

Lancaster Posted by david on April 25, 2009

Once when I was in the air over CYTZ, the Lancaster from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum flew 500 feet under me: beautiful plane. Someone told me that it's one of only two airworthy Lancs left in the world
