Southwest Airlines will launch nonstop service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, Bahamas, beginning June 3, 2027. The seasonal route will operate twice weekly through August 2, 2027, per Aviation Week, and represents the first scheduled nonstop between Austin and Nassau.
The route is one of three new international destinations Southwest is adding from AUS for summer 2027. Liberia, Costa Rica, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, also launch on June 3, while a previously announced San José, Costa Rica service begins on March 13, 2027. Business Travel News described the Nassau and fellow AUS international routes as operating on weekends.
Southwest currently serves Nassau from several other cities in its network but has not operated the route from Austin. The carrier's Texas capital expansion follows the opening of a new crew base at AUS in early 2026 and is part of a broader push to compete with Delta Air Lines, which has been growing rapidly at the airport.
With seven international routes from AUS set to operate by June 2027, compared to two in June 2026, the expansion marks a significant international step for Austin-Bergstrom. Southwest will also have its first passenger lounge at AUS targeted to open in late 2027, according to Aviation Week.
