Qantas plans to launch daily nonstop flights between Perth Airport (PER) and Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) from December 14, 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
The route will be operated by Boeing 737-800 aircraft and will place Qantas in direct competition with Batik Air on the Perth-Jakarta corridor, according to Simple Flying.
The expansion is enabled by an updated bilateral air services agreement between Australia and Indonesia that creates an additional 5,000 seats per week. Qantas Group applied to Australia's International Air Services Commission (IASC) for 4,539 of those seats per week in each direction for five years, covering both Qantas and its subsidiary Jetstar. Competing applications were due by October 19, 2026, per TravelMole.
The Perth-Jakarta route is the first of several planned additions in the expansion. Qantas also intends to increase its Melbourne-Jakarta frequency before eventually shifting to daily Airbus A321XLR operations. Jetstar plans a new Western Sydney to Bali service from March 2027 and additional Brisbane-Bali flights from August 2027.
Qantas currently serves the Australia-Indonesia market via Sydney-Denpasar, Melbourne-Denpasar, Sydney-Jakarta, and Melbourne-Jakarta. Approximately 4.31 million two-way passengers traveled between the two countries in 2025, up 6.4% year over year, as cited by TravelMole. Bali accounts for roughly 86% of the bilateral market.
