GOL Linhas Aereas will begin four-times-weekly nonstop flights between Rio de Janeiro's RIOgaleao International Airport (GIG) and Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) on 16 September 2026, marking the airline's first scheduled operation to Europe, per Business Travel News Europe.
From 16 September through 24 October 2026, outbound departures from GIG operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 08:00 local time, arriving in Lisbon at 21:40, with Friday departures at 08:05 arriving at 21:45. From 25 October 2026, the schedule shifts to a 09:00 departure on all four operating days, still arriving at 21:40, per Travel Industry Wire. Return flights from Lisbon are timed for next-day arrivals in Rio.
GOL opened ticket sales following confirmation of the route. Lisbon is an established gateway for Brazilian travelers to the rest of the European Union, and Portugal's cultural and linguistic ties to Brazil make it a natural first European destination for the carrier. Aviation24.be reports that a Paris Charles de Gaulle service from Rio is also planned, with a launch date still to be announced.
GOL already operates nonstop GIG-New York JFK service that launched July 8, 2026, with three weekly flights. The Lisbon route is the airline's first European destination, extending a transatlantic push that also has Orlando and Paris in the pipeline.
