ITA Airways launched daily nonstop seasonal service from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) to Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) on June 1, 2026, operating through September 30, 2026. The route was part of a three-destination simultaneous launch alongside new ITA services to Málaga and Valencia, with inaugural ceremonies at each airport attended by institutional representatives and the airline's commercial teams.
Marseille is France's second-largest city and largest Mediterranean port, a growing hub for both business travelers and tourists drawn to Provence, the Calanques national park, and the Côte d'Azur. The Rome–Marseille link is well-suited to both point-to-point leisure demand and onward connectivity: ITA's Rome Fiumicino hub offers connections to 17 Italian domestic airports, extending the effective Marseille catchment area to smaller Italian cities.
The summer-only, daily-frequency structure is consistent with ITA's broader seasonal expansion for Summer 2026, which includes increased operations to other French and Spanish Mediterranean points. ITA is pursuing Star Alliance membership as part of its integration into the Lufthansa Group following Lufthansa's 41% acquisition in January 2026, which will further strengthen the commercial viability of cross-European hub connections.
Chief Commercial Officer Emiliana Limosani said the additions reflect growing demand for "in-demand leisure destinations" accessible via Rome's hub network.
