- Cleanliness: A Nigerian pilot recently praised the airport for being "super clean" and "spotless," exceeding her expectations. This positive feedback highlights a significant improvement in the airport's appearance.
- Staff Professionalism and Integrity: Recent commendations from Sierra Leonean footballer Kei Kamara highlight instances of airport staff demonstrating honesty and commitment to customer service, including the recovery and return of misplaced items like headphones and mobile phones.
- Improving Service Delivery: The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has been acknowledged for ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing passenger experience and operational standards, with these efforts being recognized by travelers.
- Security/Immigration Efficiency: Travelers have historically rated security and immigration efficiency as "very unpopular" compared to other airports, with processing times potentially taking 30-60 minutes. Past comments also mention "crazy extortion" and "greedy, lazy employees" in customs and airport services.
- Terminal Access and Services: Terminal access and general services are rated poorly by travelers. The airport is described as "small and basic" with "very limited facilities," including no luxury lounge and basic food options.
- Challenging Transfer to Freetown: The transfer from Lungi Airport to Freetown involves crossing the Sierra Leone River estuary, as there is no bridge. This water crossing can be difficult, especially at night when the government ferry does not run, and finding reliable speedboats can be unsafe. Luggage handling is manual, and child safety facilities on speedboats are limited.

Bottom line: While Lungi International Airport has shown recent improvements in cleanliness and staff integrity, the unique challenge of the Freetown transfer and historical issues with efficiency and limited facilities remain significant considerations for travelers. Pre-booked transfers are strongly recommended, especially for late arrivals or those traveling with children.
