Official taxis are available 24/7 at designated stands outside the arrivals halls of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Fares are metered, and it is strongly recommended to use the official queue to avoid scams. Have your destination address written in Chinese characters to ensure clear communication with the driver.
Major international and local car rental companies like Hertz, Avis, and eHi Car Services have counters in the arrivals area. However, self-driving is generally not an option for most international visitors as a valid Chinese driver's license is mandatory. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is not sufficient on its own. Chauffeur-driven car services are a more common and practical alternative.
PVG is well-connected by an efficient public transit system:
