Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals hall. The ride to Zhangjiajie city center takes about 15-20 minutes and costs approximately 15-30 CNY. A trip to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area entrance takes 40-60 minutes and costs around 100-150 CNY. It is recommended to use the meter and have your destination written in Chinese.
Major Chinese car rental companies like China Auto Rental (CAR) and eHi have a presence, but self-driving is challenging for international visitors as a Chinese driver's license is required. International Driving Permits are generally not accepted. A more common and recommended option is to hire a private car with a local driver, which can be pre-arranged online or through your hotel.
The most economical option is the public city bus. Route 4 connects the airport with downtown Zhangjiajie, including the Central Bus Station and Railway Station. The fare is very low (around 2 CNY) and the journey takes about 30-40 minutes. There is no direct metro or high-speed train link at the airport; you must take a bus or taxi to the city's train stations to connect to the rail network.
