The airline was established as a subsidiary of Juneyao Air in 2014 and officially commenced commercial operations on January 15, 2015, making it the first and only low-cost airline operating from Central and Southern China. Its main operational base is Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN).
The airline operates a modern fleet primarily consisting of Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with a fleet size of approximately 26 to 27 planes. 9 Air focuses on a domestic and international route network, primarily serving destinations from southern China. Its network extends to over 50 destinations across China and Southeast Asia, including countries like Laos, Thailand, and Japan.
As a low-cost carrier, 9 Air offers an all-economy seating configuration. Notable services include options for extra legroom seats, the ability to pre-order meals and non-alcoholic beverages, and in-flight Wi-Fi for messaging on its narrow-body aircraft, a service it pioneered among Chinese LCCs in 2018.
