Taxis are readily available just outside the airport arrivals hall. Fares are not metered but are fixed by the government based on destination. It is recommended to confirm the price with the driver before your trip. Taxis are often multi-passenger vans or open-air 'safari' style vehicles and can take you to destinations on Tortola or to ferry terminals for travel to other islands.
Several local and international car rental agencies operate at or near the airport, including Avis, Hertz, and Jerry's Car Rental. It is highly advisable to book a vehicle in advance. To rent a car, you will need a valid driver's license from your home country and must purchase a temporary BVI driver's license, which is available from the rental company. Driving is on the left-hand side of the road in the BVI.
There is no scheduled public bus system or train service that directly connects to the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport. Public transportation is not a practical option for travelers arriving with luggage. The primary methods for leaving the airport are taxis, pre-arranged shuttles, or rental cars.
