Circa late 2012 to early 2013
The heliport was closed primarily due to the large-scale redevelopment of its location. The site was needed for the construction of the new, multi-story P+R (Park and Ride) Transferium Pettelaar, which began in 2012. The increasing traffic and construction activity made continued helicopter operations impractical and unsafe. Additionally, historical noise complaints from nearby residential areas contributed to the decision not to relocate it within the immediate vicinity.
The original site of the heliport has been completely transformed. It is now occupied by the P+R Transferium Pettelaar, a large parking garage and public transport hub designed to serve commuters and visitors to 's-Hertogenbosch. There are no remaining physical traces of the former heliport.
Pettelaar Heliport was a relatively simple, ground-level landing site rather than a full-featured airport. Its primary function was to facilitate business and VIP transport. Its strategic location next to the A2 motorway and close to the Provincial Government building (Provinciehuis Noord-Brabant) and the Brabanthallen exhibition center made it a convenient arrival and departure point for executives, politicians, and special guests. It was operated by companies like Heli Holland and served a niche market for corporate and charter flights.
There are no current or active plans to reopen the Pettelaar Heliport or to establish a new public heliport in 's-Hertogenbosch. Following the closure, the municipality investigated several alternative locations between 2013 and 2015, including industrial parks and even a floating platform on a nearby lake (Ertveldplas). However, all proposals were met with significant opposition from local residents and businesses due to concerns about noise pollution and environmental impact, and the plans were ultimately shelved. The political will to establish a new heliport has since diminished.
