Authorized, pre-paid taxis are the main transportation service. After clearing customs, purchase a ticket from an official taxi kiosk inside the arrivals hall. You can choose between a private taxi ('privado') for a direct trip or a shared shuttle van ('colectivo'), which is more economical but makes multiple stops. Fares are fixed based on destination zones (e.g., Zihuatanejo, Ixtapa). Present your ticket to the dispatcher at the taxi stand outside the terminal.
Several major car rental agencies have counters inside the airport's arrivals hall, including Hertz, Avis, Budget, and Europcar. It is advisable to book in advance for better rates. A valid driver's license, passport, and credit card are required. Note that mandatory Mexican liability insurance is required by law and is often an additional cost not included in initial online quotes.
There is no direct public bus service from the terminal building itself. To access the local bus system, you must walk a few hundred meters from the terminal, past the parking lot, to the main highway (Carretera Nacional 200). From there, you can flag down buses heading towards either Zihuatanejo or Ixtapa. This is the most affordable option but may be inconvenient if you have a lot of luggage.
