Alaska Airlines (ICAO: ASA) is a prominent North American airline known for its extensive network and customer-focused services.
Alaska Airlines traces its origins back to McGee Airways, established in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1932. The company evolved through a series of mergers and name changes, officially becoming Alaska Airlines in 1944. Over the decades, it has grown from a regional carrier serving remote Alaskan communities to become the fifth-largest airline in North America by scheduled passengers carried.
The airline's primary operational base and headquarters are located in SeaTac, Washington, within the Seattle metropolitan area. Its main hubs include Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Anchorage (ANC), Los Angeles (LAX), Portland (PDX), San Diego (SAN), and San Francisco (SFO). The fleet primarily consists of Boeing 737 family aircraft, including the 737-700, 737-800, 737-900, 737-900ER, and 737 MAX series. Additionally, Alaska Airlines operates Boeing 787 mainline passenger aircraft for long-haul routes and Boeing 737 freighter aircraft. Regional flights are branded as Alaska Airlines and operated by Embraer 175 jets through its subsidiaries, Horizon Air and third-party contractor SkyWest Airlines. As of January 2026, the Alaska Air Group maintains an operational fleet of 413 aircraft.
Alaska Airlines operates a comprehensive route network connecting cities along the West Coast of the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) to over 120 destinations, encompassing more than 100 domestic and 21 international locations across seven countries. Recent expansions include new intercontinental services to Asia and Europe, such as Tokyo, Seoul, Rome, London-Heathrow, and Reykjavik. Alaska Airlines became a member of the Oneworld Alliance on March 31, 2021, which significantly expands its global reach and offers enhanced benefits to its frequent flyers. The airline offers various cabin classes: First Class, Premium Class, and Main Cabin. First Class provides wider seats, extra legroom, complimentary meals and alcoholic beverages, two free checked bags, and priority services. For its new long-haul international routes, Alaska is introducing International Business Class Suites on its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, featuring fully lie-flat seats with privacy doors. Premium Class offers additional legroom, priority boarding, and complimentary alcoholic drinks. The Main Cabin includes amenities such as leather seats, power outlets, Wi-Fi, free texting, and complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. They also offer Saver fares, which are their most restrictive but still include a personal item and carry-on.
