Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (KMSP/MSP) is the largest and busiest airport in the Upper Midwest region of the United States, serving as the primary air gateway for Minnesota and its surrounding states. As a joint civil-military airport, it handles extensive commercial passenger traffic alongside operations for the Air Force Reserve Command and the Air National Guard. First opened in 1921 as Speedway Field, it was renamed Wold–Chamberlain Field in 1923 to honor two local pilots, Ernest Wold and Cyrus Chamberlain, who lost their lives in World War I. This historical name is still part of its official designation today. The airport's growth has mirrored the development of the region, establishing it as a critical piece of national transportation infrastructure.

Conveniently located within 10 miles of both downtown Minneapolis and downtown Saint Paul, the airport is easily accessible. The METRO Blue Line light rail is a popular option, with stations at both terminals providing direct service to both city centers. Travelers can also utilize taxis, app-based ride services, and city buses. For those driving, the airport is situated near major highways, including Interstate 494 and State Highway 5, with ample parking available in ramps connected to the terminals.

MSP is a major hub for Delta Air Lines and a home base for Sun Country Airlines, contributing to its status as one of the busiest airports in the country by passenger traffic. It supports a robust network of domestic flights and offers nonstop service to numerous international destinations in North America, Europe, and Asia. The airport operates two terminals, Terminal 1 (Lindbergh) and Terminal 2 (Humphrey), which are not physically connected. Terminal 1 is the larger of the two, serving most major airlines across seven concourses (A-G). Both terminals are well-equipped with a wide array of restaurants, shops, and traveler lounges, and an InterContinental hotel is connected directly to Terminal 1.

For a smooth travel experience, passengers should plan to arrive two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international departure. A key tip for connecting passengers is that transfers between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 require exiting the secure area and taking a free, 24/7 light rail train. This means travelers must go through security screening again at their connecting terminal. Within the large Terminal 1, a tram and moving walkways help passengers navigate between the concourses efficiently after clearing security.
