Official airport taxis, typically green and white, are readily available outside the arrivals terminal. It is strongly recommended to negotiate and agree on the fare before starting your trip, as meters are not consistently used. Ride-hailing services like Uber and the local app Txova are also popular and can be used for pickups.
Several car rental companies have service desks located in the arrivals hall. Options include major international brands like Avis, Hertz, and Europcar, as well as local providers. Booking in advance is recommended, especially during peak seasons. An International Driving Permit may be required along with your valid national license.
The main form of public transport is the 'chapa' (minibus taxi). This is the most affordable option but can be crowded and may not be suitable for travelers with large luggage. Chapas do not enter the airport grounds; you need to walk a short distance to the main road (Avenida de Moçambique) to catch one. There is no direct train or dedicated city bus service from the airport terminal.
