Taxis are the most common mode of transport from Fascene Airport. They are readily available outside the arrivals terminal. It is essential to negotiate and agree on the fare with the driver before starting your journey, as taxis are not metered. Fares are typically paid in Malagasy Ariary (MGA) or sometimes Euros. Many hotels also offer pre-arranged airport transfer services.
Several local and international car rental companies serve Fascene Airport, though they may not have physical desks in the terminal. It is highly recommended to book a vehicle in advance online. A representative will typically meet you upon arrival. Options range from small cars to 4x4s, with the latter being advisable for navigating the island's varied road conditions. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is often required.
There are no formal public bus or train services connecting directly to Fascene Airport. The island's primary form of public transport is the 'taxi-brousse' (shared minibus), but these do not have a scheduled stop at the airport and are not a practical option for arriving travelers with luggage.
the picture here shows the airport in 2005 just after the runway had been prolonged. the circular open space at RWY23 is where now stands a VOR emitter. The airport handles several intl flights from/to Italy, France, La Réunion & Mauritius. There are of course domestic flights performed by Air Madagascar, the local, and only, and national, airline. Nosy Be is indeed a nice place to visit
